MCKINNEY, Texas — McKinney National Airport said its passenger terminal is on time to open Nov. 11, 2026, and Avelo Airlines will add nonstop flights from the airport to Atlanta, Denver, Nashville, and New Orleans. The airport uses the code DTX. The city said Avelo will also base a third aircraft there. Airport and contracting partners walked Avelo’s leadership, community members, and local media through the new terminal six weeks before it opens to the public on Veterans Day. Avelo’s inaugural DTX flights, announced earlier, are Fort Myers on Nov. 11, Las Vegas and Orlando on Nov. 12, and Tampa and Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 19. The December additions listed in the city’s schedule are: - Atlanta (ATL), beginning Wednesday, Dec. 16, four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. - Denver (DEN), beginning Wednesday, Dec. 16, four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. - Nashville (BNA), beginning Thursday, Dec. 17, twice a week on Thursday and Sunday. - New Orleans (MSY), beginning Thursday, Dec. 17, twice a week on Thursday and Sunday. The Houston-based carrier will fly and base three 184-seat Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 jets and operate Wednesday through Monday from DTX, the city said. Schedules and bookings are at AveloAir.com. Airport information is at FlyDTX.com. “Avelo Airlines is contributing positively to the North Texas economy by investing in nonstop flights to nine in-demand cities, a third based aircraft, and more than 100 career opportunities at McKinney National Airport,” said City of McKinney Assistant City Manager Barry Shelton. “We thank Avelo Airlines’ CEO Andrew Levy and team for making McKinney a focus city in their overall network, and for bringing convenient air travel to those who live, work, and visit Collin County.” Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy said bookings already support the expansion. “The response from North Texas has been extraordinary, and the bookings back that up. Adding four new destinations and a third-based aircraft before we have even flown our first flight from McKinney says everything about our commitment here.” The city said Avelo is expected to generate more than 100 jobs at DTX, including pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians, and airport ground handling and customer service staff. Applicants are directed to aveloair.com/careers. “Since we announced plans to bring commercial air service to McKinney National Airport, and Avelo Airlines announced its flights, we’ve heard from many local residents eager to work at DTX,” said City of McKinney Director of Aviation Ken Carley. “Our region has deep talent in the construction trades and aviation, and this growth will create more opportunities for well-paying, rewarding careers.” Carley said the terminal is weeks from completion and on time. Federal Aviation Administration Director, Airports Southwest Region Ignacio Flores presented DTX’s Airport Operating Certificate to Carley at the announcement. The city called federal certification a milestone in the airport’s move to commercial service. When booking, DTX is the code that should appear on airline sites, boarding passes, baggage tags, and itineraries.
