FRISCO, Texas — The City of Frisco said one mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus this week and that a contractor will ground-spray eight neighborhoods overnight on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27.
Spraying is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, and run through 5 a.m. Sunday, weather and wind permitting. The city said the same overnight window repeats Sunday night, Sept. 27, and ends at 5 a.m. Monday.
The neighborhoods named in the alert are Fairfield Estates, Lakes of Preston Vineyards, Parkside Estates, Plantation Estates, Preston Lakes, Preston Vineyards North, Shepherds Hill, and Stonebryck Manor. The city linked a map PDF with the alert.
The city said this is the 13th positive mosquito pool in Frisco this year. No human cases of West Nile virus are confirmed in Frisco in 2026. Pool locations, including results from earlier years, are on the city’s GIS Mosquito Dashboard.
Residents are asked to follow the Texas Department of State Health Services steps the city labels Wear, Apply and Remove:
- Wear long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
- Apply insect repellent every time you go outside. The city said approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
- Remove standing water from bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants, and splash blocks at the end of a gutter downspout.
The city said mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus can breed in stagnant water. Under Frisco’s Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan, the city tests mosquito pools from May 1 through Nov. 15.
